Human Aspiration, Innovative Thinking , Advanced Specialization, Global Vision

In response to the world trend, the College of Science and Technology of NCNU develops engineering technology education that integrates across fields, promotes sustainable environment and energy, and cross-field application of artificial intelligence, links industry-government-academic cooperation, and transfers technology to products through patent acquisition change. Teachers and students are encouraged to enter the society, apply their majors to solve complex and diverse social issues, and at the same time cultivate students' practical skills, so that what they have learned has positive value and contribution to the country and society.

Departments

Strive to become a leading academic research institute in central Taiwan.

Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering

The Department wishes to contribute to Taiwan’s information industry by strengthening the fundamental education in information science and engineering, fostering students’ software and hardware implementation, and training specialists in information system integration and software innovation to be in line with the national development of information technology.

Department of Civil Engineering

National Chi Nan University is located at Puli, Nantou, a place with a great variety of landscapes and geographical features. The environment thus provides the best sites for the study of disaster prevention, treatment measures and environment sustainability . The central themes of the Department are devoted to disaster prevention research 、environment sustainability research and teaching with an emphasis on science and humanities, as well as theory and practice. Our undergraduate program was founded in 1997, followed by the master’s program in 2001 and the doctoral program in 2004.

Department of Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical Engineering at National Chi Nan University was founded in August 1998, beginning with an undergraduate program. Subsequently, Master’s and Ph.D. programs were established in 2000 and 2003, respectively. In August 2011, the department was further enlarged with the merger of the Graduate Institute of Communication Engineering. In recent years, the output value of the electrical and electronics industry represents a dominant portion of Taiwan’s total industrial output. Thus, the industry plays a pivotal role in Taiwan’s national economy. As there continues to be a high demand for talents in electrical and electronics engineering, all universities in Taiwan have been aggressively setting up relevant programs. It is against this backdrop that the Department of Electrical Engineering at NCNU is continuously evolving and renewing itself.

Department of Applied Chemistry

Chemistry is a fundamental, applied science that is closely related to our daily life in various areas such as food, biochemistry, medicine, dyes, petrochemicals, catalysts, materials, environmental protection, batteries, semiconductors manufacturing processes, etc. Therefore, experts in applied chemistry play an important role in the national economy. The Department of Applied Chemistry is committed to the education of applied chemistry and the training of professionals for the industries.

Department of Applied Materials and Optoelectronic Engineering

At present, materials technology, optoelectronic technology and nanotechnology are global trends of technology development and they are making great impacts on the future development of Taiwan’s industries and economy. Therefore, specialists from these fields are urgently needed. Our Department aims at cultivating optoelectronic engineers with a background in materials technology.

Bachelor Program of College of Science and Technology.

Focus on two cross-disciplinary programs of "AI Artificial Intelligence" and "Sustainable Environment and Energy" to cultivate π-type talents with cross-field communication and innovation

Master Program in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics

This degree program is jointly established by the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering of the College of Science and Technology. The key tasks include cultivating students' artificial intelligence and robotics technology cognition and application concepts, practice ethos, developing application-oriented innovation capabilities, and strengthening the cultivation of "application" talents in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics.
